Movie Marker Magazine got up close with Italian actor, Niccolò Dallerba to talk acting, life before Los Angeles, and some his lead role in ‘Suspicious’.

Welcome to Movie Marker! I understand you were born in Florence in Italy, a wonderful place in the world. What was it like growing up there?

Yes! I was born in the stunning city of Florence in Italy. It is one of the most beautiful cities in the world, with so many things from the specialty dishes, culture, people, and beautiful places it has to offer, Florence is one of a kind. Aside from my hometown in Italy, I spent a year in Australia, and it became one of the greatest experiences in my life.

What and who inspired you to become an actor?

I had so many influences growing up and I think it’s a cliché, but I loved Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, and Sergio Leone. They were the figures that made me dream for all my youth and still gives me goosebumps. I tell you that, I always wanted to have the poster of the movie ‘Jaws’ but I never find it and I’m still so sad about it.

You’ve been acting a while, do you have a favorite type of character to portray?

I don’t think I have a favorite character to portray, but I do think that I’ve been cast a lot in some characters like the good looking guy or much deeper characters as a psycho killer bad guy. I am always looking first at the script and the text. I try as much as I can to look at the character in as many ways as I can, finding the truth and asking myself plenty of questions. In my opinion sometimes if it isn’t in the script it isn’t on stage, and you cannot do much about it but you can work on the words that you have and try something special. I always enjoy doing characters that are really different or opposite with versatility that give me the pleasure to challenge myself and discover new things.

Tell us about your movie ‘Suspicious’, where you are the lead actor. What is the movie about?

‘Suspicious’ was filmed in Florence in Italy and is a love story about a couple very much in love however, after many fights takes a twisted turn with dramatic events. I play the lead role of a wealthy man who’s charming and humble but at the same time is jealous to the point of questioning his real love, maybe.

It’s been a fun experience with a great artistic community that gave me the opportunity to be in a leading role and it was really a stunning project because the environment and locations we filmed in made it look amazing, with all the great details and so much history around us.

What do you want people to take away from the film?

I hope that people will be fascinated with the story and the characters, because for me it is a super emotional story and in our lives, speaking for myself, there are always conflicts and people that we love but how ready are we to fight for them?

Do you get to go to the cinema much? Any films you have enjoyed lately?

Yes, I love cinema and I love going to the theater watching movies. I try at least to go to the theater two times every two weeks if it’s better when I have free time. I love going with some of my friends but honestly there are some movies that are for a smaller audience, and I love going alone too. I understand now it’s easier to watch a movie at home laying down on the couch with your favorite food, but we need to go to the theater all together because it’s much more of a fun experience and we must support each other as actors and the movie theatres. I watched too many good films in the last few months, and one is ‘The Whale’ that I really suggest and ‘Bones and All’ which is directed by the amazing Luca Guadagnino.
