UK Trailer For LGBT Football Drama ‘Mario’
The mere idea of there being an out and proud gay footballer, playing in one of the top tiers of world football, has sadly been a difficult concept for the sport to handle for many years.
Cinematically the stigma is slowly being removed with the likes of Ben A Williams’ ‘The Pass’ starring Russell Tovey and now ‘Mario’ directed by Marcel Gisler. The film follows Young Boys Bern teammates Mario (Max Hubacher) and Leon (Aaron Altaras) who are both looking to break into the first team, only for a tender romance to develop between the two strikers, highlighting the pressures faced by professionals to be open about their sexuality as they look to preserve their careers.
