It has been confirmed that Chris Hemsworth (Thor and Rush) will join Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs to announce the 86th Academy Award nominations live from Hollywood this coming Thursday 16th January.

The nominations will be read at the very precise time of 5:38am PT (1:38pm GMT) at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater. The nominees across all 24 categories will be announced, with press and media updated simultaneously. Only Oscar will be live streaming the event via a dedicated Oscar Nominations page, which you can access by clicking the image at the top.

12 Years a SlaveGravity and American Hustle are among the top films contesting for Academy Awards nominations, but there is plenty of British representation from Saving Mr. Banks and Philomena. Both Emma Thompson and Judi Dench could pick up nominations for Leading Actress, with the latter an underdog for Adapted Screenplay.

Tom Hanks could pick up nominations in both acting categories for his roles in Captain Phillips and Saving Mr. Banks, though it is Chiwetel Ejiofor who remains a firm favorite for Leading Actor as Solomon Northup in 12 Years a Slave. The supporting categories remain the most unpredictable of the lot, with a multitude of names vying for a nod, and there are also bound to be surprises in the Best Picture category.

It’s a terribly strong bunch of films this year so awards fans across the globes will be anxiously awaiting the announcement. The 86th Academy Awards will be held at the Dolby Theater on Sunday March 2nd, hosted by Ellen DeGeneres and broadcast around the world.
