Tatum To Helm Magic Mike Sequel?

Published

In a summer jam packed with comicbook heavyweights and sequels aplenty, the female demographic were living ‘in fear’ of being alienated. That was of course.. until Magic Mike and his stripper posse whipped them into a frenzy. Critically praised and a solid success at the box office, many have been left craving for more.

The current spanner in the works in regards a sequel, is acclaimed director Steven Soderbergh (Traffic and Haywire) has bailed out and declared himself ‘on hiatus’. In a surprise twist, leading man Channing Tatum has expressed an interest in taking over and helming the sequel according to screenwriter/producer Reid Carolin.

Only vaguely fleshing out their plans, Carolin in a statement said:

‘You know, we are talking alot about it. We have a story, and it is really ridiculous and fun. It’s a road movie sort of thing, where a bunch of strippers get back together. It’s more of a broad comedy. I don’t know whether it will happen or not.’

Tatum has slowly been growing in stature after stellar turns in ‘Mike’ and proving his comedic chops in ’21 Jump Street’, so he could be a dark horse as far as being a dab hand at directing. MM will keep you posted!
