Spidey Sequel Confirms ‘Green Goblin’ Return!
The character of Norman Osborn/Green Goblin originally played by Willem Defoe, was an integral figure of Sam Raimi’s generally well received trilogy. With director Marc Webb taking the reins once again, he seems eager to build on the world established in The Amazing Spiderman ‘reboot’ by re-introducing such familiar characters.
We already have on board Shailene Woodley (The Descendants) as Mary Jane Watson and Dane Dehaan (Chronicle) as Norman’s son Harry, roles previously undertaken by Kirsten Dunst and James Franco. Now we can confirm that Spidey’s fierce adversary will return, with Chris Cooper joining the project.
The mention of his name may not initially prick up everyone’s ears, but Cooper is an underrated and prolonged figure in Hollywood making his presence felt with memorable turns, in The Muppets and American Beauty being worthy mentions. In regards to this particular installment, it remains uncertain whether the villainous alter ego will be unleashed.
Whilst a quality addition, it may spark fears amongst hardcore fans after the bloated nature of ‘Spiderman 3’ which effectively ended Raimi’s tenure. With two high profile villains already confirmed in the form of Jamie Foxx as Electro and Paul Giamatti as Rhino, will Webb have the directorial nous to perfect such a balancing act?
