Sir Ben Kingsley on the Iron-Man 3 radar?
With Marvel’s The Avengers (Or whatever it goes by at time of release) on the horizon, the vultures were soon to be circling their next big release Iron Man 3. With the director of the first two films Jon Favreau no longer attached, the series seems headed in a different direction with the studio and director Shane Black in final negotiations with Kingsley to play an antagonist’s role in the film.
Favreau had previously set the franchise up for an appearance of comic villain favourite Mandarin in the third instalment but insiders have been quick to deny Kingsley for such a role. The character is a comic original, a classic villain who used the abilities of ten rings of power forged by aliens to gain strength and attempt to turn the weapons of nations against themselves. Fans who were hoping for the character’s appearance may go disappointed with the wealthy Chinese scientist perhaps not to make his appearance just yet.
Sources have revealed that the third film’s plot will revolve around nanobot technology incorporated into Tony Stark’s suit and virus that arises with the technology. Kingsley is rumoured to play a role that centres upon spreading that virus maliciously.
Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johannson, Gwyneth Paltrow and Don Cheadle are all set to reprise their roles from the previous outing.
Iron-Man 3 is due for release May 3rd 2013. Let the further speculation… commence!
