Sesame Street Set For The Big Screen!

In a move undoubtedly spurred on by the successful rebirth of Jim Henson’s The Muppets earlier this year thanks to Jason Segel, 20th Century Fox have announced that they are set to give ‘Sesame Street’ a new cinematic outing.

The popular educational show aimed at the younger demographic, has had an illustrious run spanning over four decades and has bagged itself awards aplenty.

This is certainly not the first time that the likes of Elmo, Big Bird and Cookie Monster have been unleashed in multiplexes, Follow That Bird from 1985 and The Adventures of Elmo in Graceland from 1999 being the previous entries respectively.

Eager to delve into the production phases, Fox have installed director Shawn Levy as the man to develop the project further alongside long time writer Joey Mazzarino. Levy’s previous credits include both ‘Night In The Museum’ films starring Ben Stiller and more recently, the Hugh Jackman led robot smackdown ‘Real Steel’. Considering the target audience and his track record, Levy seems to be an astute acquisition.

No release date has been pencilled as of yet, but MM will most certainly be keeping a eye on this one!
