Rian Johnson Directing Star Wars Episode VIII!
With production very much underway on Episode VII as J.J Abrams attempts to rebuild the confidence in such a series, whilst lamenting the unfortunate nature of Harrison Ford’s recent injury, Disney/Lucasfilm have been laying the foundations for various future instalments of ‘Star Wars’.
Already in the pipeline, we have been promised spin-off films which will be directed by ‘Godzilla’ and ‘Monsters’ Gareth Edwards along with ‘Chronicle’s Josh Trank, who is also tackling the reboot of ‘Fantastic Four’ for Marvel. Now it has been confirmed that Abrams’ jump from Trek to Wars is set to be a one-time deal.
For Episode VIII which is currently pencilled for a 2017 release, they have appointed director Rian Johnson. A talent who has gone from strength to strength since his ‘Brick’ debut, Johnson has been fully immersed in the sci-fi genre before with the critically lauded ‘Looper’ starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Bruce Willis, whilst providing small screen lovers much compelling television through ‘Breaking Bad’.
Making the jump to iconic blockbuster status is a recurring theme with recent hirings by Disney, yet with his track record and already grown accustomed to consistently providing an end prodect that meets expectations, the inclusion of Johnson seems another astute move.
‘Star Wars Episode VII’. 18th December 2015. On the off chance you haven’t marked the date in your calendars yet guys..
