Rhyller Thriller: A New Horror film festival coming to Rhyl

Wicked Wales Films is launching a new film festival for Rhyl on March 11th-12th at Rhyl Town Hall. The Wicked team is developing Rhyller Thriller with the festival director Chad Jones. The Wicked team is developing.

Chad Jones and Rob Parry were responsible for setting up the classic horror podcast Something Wicked during lockdown when cinemas could not operate. The festival is looking to celebrate horror films with a connection to Wales, providing opportunities for local directors and screening a programme of much-loved classic horror films on the big screen. The two days will include special guests, panel discussions, workshops, premieres, book signings and an opportunity to buy original and collectable horror memorabilia from vendors from all over the UK.

The festival announced that actor Simon Bamford will be in attendance on the Saturday of the film festival. Bamford has played the Cenobite Butterball in Hellraiser and Hellbound: Hellraiser 2, Ohnaka in Nightbreed and many other roles. There will be a showing of Clive Barker’s 1982 classic Hellraiser, and Bamford will discuss his career during a Q&A session.

Festival Director Chad Jones says,” We are delighted with the support and response we have had so far and hope the festival can become a regular event for North Wales. There are a lot of horror enthusiasts in this area, and we hope the festival will give them a weekend they will never forget”.

Rhiannon Hughes, Festival director for Wicked Wales Films, says, “Wicked’s connection with horror films started when we had a request to develop our Frightening Friday’s community cinema, and we are delighted to be supporting the development of this new festival for Rhyl. We are pleased to have the BFI support for this new venture. “

There will be a wide array of feature and short films, including the world premiere of The Hounds of Darkness, the Welsh premiere of Tales of the Creeping Death and screenings of House of Horace, The Feast, Skuzz, Bang-Zoom, Geronimo and The Nurturing to name a few.
