Recall Remake Fails To Successfully Plot TDKR’s Downfall!
The third film of a beloved comicbook trilogy.. three weeks at the top of the heap. Warner Bros ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ continued this weekend to dominate the field at the US box office, raking in another $36.4 million. Now standing at a rather impressive $354 million domestically, the chances of ‘Rises’ overtaking its predecessor ‘The Dark Knight’ final total ($533 million) however are increasingly slim.
Its closest challenger came in the form of Len Wiseman’s big budget remake of ‘Total Recall’. Starring the trio of Colin Farrell, Kate Beckinsale and Jessica Biel, it failed to capture the imagination of audiences as previously hoped. Claiming the runner up spot and $26 million, it was scarce improvement on the Paul Verhoeven original from 1990 ($25.5 million). With a reported $125 million budget at least risked on the film, it faces an uphill battle to claw back such finances.
Last but not least, the top 3 was completed by the latest family friendly installment of ‘Diary Of A Wimpy Kid: Dog Days’ which scored $14.7 million.
Here’s the full rundown:
1. The Dark Knight Rises $36 million
2. Total Recall $26 million
3. Diary Of A Wimpy Kid: Dog Days $14.7 million
4. Ice Age: Continental Drift $8.4 million
5. The Watch $6.4 million
6. Ted $5.5 million
7. Step Up Revolution $5.3 million
8. The Amazing Spiderman $4.3 million
9. Brave $2.9 million
10. Magic Mike $1.4 million
