Previews: Pixar 2012 and Beyond!
Pixar’s latest release Brave hits UK cinemas on the 17th August, but that’s not all the world famous studio have planned for the next few months, after attending a Disney event recently we can give a little more information on what we can expect to see hitting the big screen in the coming months.
Monsters. Inc. 3D
Released: 18th January 2013
The academy award winning comedy adventure returns to the big screen in 3D, with lovable Sulley (John Goodman) and his wise cracking best friend Mike Wazowski (Billy Crystal) as they struggle to help a little girl named Boo find her way home from Monstropolis in the midst of a wild and mysterious cover up.
Okay, it’s not strictly a new release but the chance to see Monsters, Inc in the cinema again is more than fine with us! The studio is re-releasing it with their eyes firmly on the prequel Monsters University that arrives later in the year (see below for preview) to ensure their is sufficient buzz around the release.
Having seen some footage from the 3D rendering, it’s vivid colours and creative visuals really lend themselves to the depth perception that 3D offers.
Finding Nemo 3D
Released: 29th March 2013
The Academy Award- winning Best Animated Feature returns in 3D. This stunning underwater adventure, with memorable characters, humour and heartfelt emotion, we follow the comedic and momentous journey of an overly protective clownfish named Marlin (Albert Brooks) and his son Nemo (Alexander Gould)- who become separated in the Great Barrier Reef when Nemo is unexpectedly taken from his home and dumped in a Dentist’s office fish tank.Marlin embarks on a dangerous journey and along with a friendly but forgetful fish named Dory (Ellen DeGeneres) he becomes an unlikely hero on his epic quest to save his son.
WHAT! Another 3D rendering of a Pixar film!? ‘Have they run out of ideas?’ I hear you cry! Fear not, in truth Finding Nemo was always designed for a 3D release but at the time the technology was not as readily available worldwide to portray the film in cinemas everywhere. However with the quality of 3D cinema at an all time high Pixar felt the time was right to release its underwater adventure.
The visuals are truly stunning, the world Pixar have created beneath the sea immerses the audience in an abundance of rainbow coloured fish and plant-life. From the footage we witnessed it’s certainly one of the best uses of 3D to date.
A little mention must also go to the new Disney policy trailer that will appear in Cinemas with this film, these are the trailers that tell you to turn your phone off, the Finding Nemo warning is one of the best I have witnessed, making use of the 3D and the fact that I wholeheartedly hate anyone who uses their phone during a film, they have created one of te most hilarious and inventive trailers yet. So keep an eye out!
Monsters University
Released: 12th July 2013
Mike Wazowski and James P.Sullivan are an inseparable pair, but that wasn’t always the case. From the moment the two mismatched monsters met they couldn’t stand each other. Monsters University tells the story of how these two overcame their differences and became the best of friends
After the success of Monsters Inc, we can only hope this one is of the same comedy and level of humour. The creativity we will see in the monsters at the university is fantastic and I certainly have high hopes for this one…
