Paul Giamatti Set To Join Spidey Sequel As Rhino!

Marc Webb certainly isn’t resting on his laurels, as he prepares to return to the directorial hotseat for ‘The Amazing Spiderman 2’. The sequel to the ‘reboot’ installment as Andrew Garfield took the reins from Tobey Mcguire, has already bagged the talents of Shailene Woodley (Emma Stone’s love rival Mary Jane) and Chronicle’s Dane Dehaan as the character Harry Osborn re-enters the fray.

Eager to shore up the villainous side of proceedings with Jamie Foxx as Electro already confirmed, Webb has seeked out the services of Mr Paul Giamatti. The ‘Sideways’ and ‘Cosmpolis’ star according to The Hollywood Reporter is locked in talks to play the role of Alekski Mikhailovich Sytsevich. Or better known to comicbook fans everywhere, Rhino.

Complete with enhanced strength and speed, Giamatti’s Rhino would certainly pose as a formidable foe to Garfield’s Spidey as Webb continues his run of inspired casting. Whilst admirable that the director is distancing himself away from retreading the same narrative ‘beats’ of the successful trilogy helmed by Sam Raimi, is there a danger he’s overstuffing the ‘scenery’ here in a similar vein to the underwhelming ‘3’ involving Venom and Sandman?

In addition, does the relatively untested Webb have the directorial prowess to juggle so many potential plot threads? We’re certainly rooting for him!

The Amazing Spiderman 2 is set to hit cinemas in May 2014!
