It is no secret that his recent efforts involving Wally Pfister with science-fiction effort ‘Transcendence’ and one time collaborator Gore Verbinski with Disney’s ‘The Lone Ranger’, have struggled to set the box office alight and win over critics.

50-year-old Johnny Depp isn’t quite resorting to an audacious disappearing act yet though. Away from his commitments to the latest ‘Pirates of The Caribbean’ and ‘Alice In Wonderland’ sequels, He is confirmed to tackle the role of famous magician Harry Houdini for his next project.

Currently entitled ‘The Secret Life Of Houdini: The Making of America’s First Superhero’, it will be a film adaptation of the biography written by William Kalush and Larry Sloman, Lionsgate are already implying that the film will tonally be more associated with rip-roaring adventures alas Indiana Jones, rather than your average run-of-the-mill biopic.

Taking up the director’s chair will be Dean Parisot, whom many will remember helmed 1999’s ‘Galaxy Quest’ starring Tim Allen and Sigourney Weaver, along with more recently comic-book sequel ‘Red 2’.

No word as yet on a tentative release date.. Yet one can only hope that considering the nature of the character, this is the film where Depp rediscovers the on-screen magic.
