Jimmy Fallon to Host 2017 Golden Globes
The Hollywood Foreign Press Association have announced that Jimmy Fallon will host the 2017 Golden Globe awards on Sunday January 8th 2017.
Fallon is known for his entertaining late night US chat show, particularly his musical skits which often go viral around the world. His cheeky irreverence has played a part in his hiring, according to NBC Entertainment Chairman Robert Greenblatt:
“This is the most spontaneous and uninhibited award show on television, and Jimmy’s playful, disarming comedic brilliance makes him the ideal host to enhance and elevate the sense of fun that’s made the Golden Globes one of the premier events of the entire broadcast year”
He is the third host since the awards chose to bring back a compere, following in the footsteps of Ricky Gervais (2010-2012, 2016) and the popular Tina Fey – Amy Poehler double act (2013-2015).
If the HFPA’s previous loyalty is anything to go by, Fallon could be in it for the long haul. He already has the stars on his side, and he will no doubt bring some family-friendliness to the awards, clearly in an effort to broaden the telecast’s appeal.
