Houdini Biopic In The Offing For Joe Wright?
When you think of acclaimed director Joe Wright, you tend to immediately associate the guy with period pieces. With Atonement, Pride and Prejudice and more recently Anna Karenina under his belt, it’s rare to see him think outside his ‘comfort zone’ despite his dabblings with hitgirl thriller ‘Hanna’. Now, it seems he’s set for a trip down biography avenue..
Despite claims that The Hunger Games director Gary Ross was originally in the driving seat, Wright is now the man likely to helm ‘Houdini’ for production company Lionsgate.
Of course based on the iconic magician Harry Houdini, the film will base itself around the 2006 biography ‘ The Secret Life of Houdini: The Making of America’s First Superhero’ written by Larry Sloman and William Kalush respectively. The biopic insinuates that Houdini was a spy for both us fellow Brits and the U.S in the build up to World War I, whilst being the master showman he’s generally renowned for.
Production/release date details remain sketchy, but with Wright’s distinctive visual style depicting proceedings.. colour us here at MM intrigued!
