Hansel And Gretel Lay Waste To The Competition!

Three new entries brimming with acting heavyweights, but the Box Office Stateside was slow out of the blocks this weekend as they attempted to wrestle the top spot away from ‘Mama’.

In a blood splattering reimagining of a classic fairytale, it was the combo of Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton who triumphed. Despite suffering a pummelling from the critics, ‘Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters’ comfortably debuted top of the pile with $19 million.

Jason Statham was back in ‘bad ass’ mode alongside ‘actor/singer’ Jennifer Lopez for his latest action veichle ‘Parker’, which didn’t set the world alight with an average $7 million in fifth position. The real flop however, was grossout comedy ‘Movie 43’. Putting many cast lists to shame (Hugh Jackman, Kate Winslet and so on) who all emphatically turned a blind eye to the film during its promotional phase, it clearly had a knockon effect on its ‘return’ with only $5 million (Seventh).

Here’s the full rundown:

1. Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters $19 million

2. Mama $12.8 million

3. Silver Linings Playbook $10 million

4. Zero Dark Thirty $9.8 million

5. Parker $7 million

6. Django Unchained $5.005 million

7. Movie 43 $5 million

8. Gangster Squad $4.2 million
