Gervais Heading Up Muppets Sequel!
After Jason Segel unleashed his inner fanboy alongside Amy Adams in the return installment with joyous results, the hint of sadness was inevitable once he clarified he would not star in the sequel. But never fear Muppets fans, as a bumbling replacement has been found.
At the start of the week it was confirmed he was in talks, now it’s official. Host of the Golden Globes and fellow Brit Ricky Gervais (The Office) will take the reins in the lead role alongside Kermit The Frog, Miss Piggy and company. This will mark his first Hollywood lead role since The Invention Of Lying back in 2009.
Renowned for his cynicism on and off the screen, it’s set to be an intriguing combination which hopefully doesn’t dilute the fun factor instilled from previous adventures. Confirming via his Twitter page, Gervais jokingly stated:
‘I have just signed up to play the lead in the next Muppet movie. I have the biggest trailer but Kermit [The Frog] will spend some time in my sink.’
Production is set to begin in January 2013.
