Gary Oldman Is Winston Churchill In ‘Darkest Hour’ Trailer
This year Brian Cox. Now in January 2018, it will be the turn of Mr Gary Oldman (The Hitman’s Bodyguard this August) to embody the fierce wartime hero and once Prime Minister Winston Churchill.
Today has seen the debut of the first official trailer for ‘Darkest Hour‘ as it chronicles the man’s rise to power, whilst reinforcing he was far from first choice to lead our country’s fight against Nazi Germany.
The film is directed by Joe Wright, who is looking to bounce back from his underwhelming big-budget take on ‘the boy who never grew up’ Pan for Warner Bros, yet has already proven his worth in this particular arena through 2007’s Atonement.
Also starring Baby Driver actress Lily James, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’s Ben Mendelsohn and Only God Forgives’ Kristin Scott Thomas, you can view the powerful sneak-peek below.
‘A thrilling and inspiring true story begins on the eve of World War II as, within days of becoming Prime Minister of Great Britain, Winston Churchill (Academy Award nominee Gary Oldman) must face one of his most turbulent and defining trials: exploring a negotiated peace treaty with Nazi Germany, or standing firm to fight for the ideals, liberty and freedom of a nation. As the unstoppable Nazi forces roll across Western Europe and the threat of invasion is imminent, and with an unprepared public, a skeptical King, and his own party plotting against him, Churchill must withstand his darkest hour, rally a nation, and attempt to change the course of world history.’
