Garfield/Webb Back On Board For Spidey Sequel!
After three hugely successful installments under the guidance of Sam Raimi albeit not equal in the quality stakes, this year’s return of Marvel’s ‘The Amazing Spiderman’ was widely declared as an unnecessary reboot. Whilst the film didn’t exactly reinvent the wheel for origin stories, the web slinger still proved to be an impressive box office draw ($750 million worldwide).
A crucial benefactor was Andrew Garfield’s superior performance, taking over the reins from Tobey Mcguire. Sharp with the wit and convincing in battle mode, fans will be glad to know that Columbia Pictures and Sony have confirmed he WILL return for the sequel.
With a trilogy very much in their thinking, continuity will be key. So it’s only fitting that director Marc Webb (500 Days of Summer) will also be back at the helm. The latest adventure for our beloved Spidey is scheduled to hit cinemas in May 2014.
We’re awaiting word on whether Emma Stone’s Gwen Stacy (currently in talks) will return and also who will be installed as the villain.. but MM will keep our eyes peeled on any developments!
