Fourth ‘Activity’ Soars To The Box Office Summit!

With its proven track record after three solid money spinning installments, it was perhaps inevitable that Paranormal Activity would frighten the competition into submission this weekend in the US.

The fourth entry in the ‘found footage’ horror franchise easily claimed the top spot this week, with $30.2 million added to Paramount’s kitty. With underwhelming reviews however for the film, it seems to have had a knock on effect in the takings compared to its predecessors. This time last year, ‘3’ claimed the title of best opening weekend for October with $52.6 million. With a fifth installment very much on the cards, it’s intriguing to see what the makers of the series will attempt to revive flagging interest.

The other new entry this week, was the film adaptation of character ‘Alex Cross’ written by James Paterson. Without his name attached to the title, Tyler Perry scored the second lowest grossing debut of his career. Mauled by the critics and lacking real star power, the film had to settle for fifth position with $11.7 million.

Here’s the full rundown:

1. Paranormal Activity 4 $30.2 million

2. Argo $16.6 million

3. Hotel Transylvania $13.5 million

4. Taken 2 $13.4 million

5. Alex Cross $11.7 million

6. Sinister $9 million

7. Here Comes The Boom $8.5 million

8. Pitch Perfect $7 million

9. Frankenweenie $4.4 million
