Hello film lovers! This is the MovieMarker team here with our first week of FILM FIGHT! This is a weekly feature where we will pit together two film related people or movies and debate and vote to see who shall rise above the rest! This week we will pt together two of the biggest movies of this summer! Both have broken numerous records and restored faith in the comic book movie genre. The Avengers versus The Dark Knight Rises!

Let’s look at the line up. First up is The Avengers! Directed by Joss Whedon this epic was the film that Marvel had been building and planning since Iron Man came out in 2008. Starring an incredible all star cast with Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Samuel L. Jackson, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffalo, and even more! The film is epic in every meaning of the world as the set pieces are huge and the fights incredible. You get everything from heros combining their attacks to fight others or even them fighting each other. The great thing about The Avengers was that Joss Whedon was able to give us spectacle and a story at a same time. Certainly we can also thank him for finally portraying the Hulk in a bad ass manner like cinema had been missing. It is also hard to deny how awesome and epic the last battle scene in New York is as pure action and spectacle are able to take you away to pure enjoyment. Shattering the box office this movie met expectations and was able to please fan boys and audiences everywhere!

Next up is the finale to the Christopher Nolan trilogy, The Dark Knight Rises! Starting with Batman Begins and following with The Dark Knight it almost seemed impossible for Christopher Nolan to follow up with another classic film. Yet somehow following the glory that was The Dark Knight he was able to create an even bigger film with more scope, action, and a bigger cast! Starring a brilliant cast with Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Tom Hardy, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Gary Oldman, Anne Hathaway, and Morgan Freeman, this movie defines the word finale. Not only was Nolan able to bring back the world of Gotham and give Batman not finale he needed, but the finale he deserved (see what I did there!). If you want to see any of our great reviews on this fantastic review head to this link. It is easily said though that the movie was fantastic and just when you thought the New York scene in The Avengers was over the top fun, wait until you see the last hour of this film.

So what can we look at as these two films face off. Each directors has its very devoted fan base and both are doing quite well in the box office. They are the peak of the comic book film genre and a great example of combining incredible film making and pure entertainment at the same time. Though enough from me, let’s see what the team had to say:

Ben Harris: I prefer The Dark Knight Rises myself. The Avengers is enjoyable but compared to TDKR it’s overly generic, spending more time on humour and OTT action. TDKR stays grounded, focusing on a complex story whilst keeping characters emotionally involved. Batman has more depth as a character than all the Avengers put together.

Lewis Filer: I think I enjoyed The Avengers a lot more than Dark Knight. The scale of The Avengers was a lot bigger than Batman and the vast array of characters each with their own personalities, stories and on screen awesomeness made The Avengers a far superior film. The Dark Knight was entertaining but it was too long, lacked humour and appeal and there was hardly enough Batman in it to be a Batman film.

In my opinion I would have to agree with Ben, I throughly enjoyed The Dark Knight Rises a lot and found it to be a masterpiece to complete one of the greatest trilogies of all time. That said Lewis does have good point on the Avengers and it is hard to deny how awesome and fun that film is too.

So what do you think? Who will reign victorious? Who will win the FILM FIGHT? Leave a comment with your thoughts and make sure to vote on our poll! Let the fight….BEGIN!
