Fresh from putting a live-action spin on the classic songs and story of ‘Beauty And The Beast’ earlier this year with Emma Watson and Dan Stevens in the lead roles, which garnered $1.26 billion at the worldwide box office. It’s hardly surprising that Disney are already weighing up another musical.

Scripted by Tarell Alvin McCraney who is likely still basking in the glory of his Best Adapted Screenplay at the Oscars this year for Moonlight, ‘Cyrano The Moor’ is set to combine narrative elements from William Shakespeare’s ‘Othello’ and French play ‘Cyrano De Bergerac’ written by Edmond Rostand.

Leading the project will be A United Kingdom actor David Oyelowo, who has previously collaborated with Disney on ‘Queen Of Katwe’ starring Lupita Nyong’o. He will also be producing the project alongside wife Jessica Oyelowo, Yoruba Saxon, Tendo Nagenda and Chaz Salembier.

After various criticism of just remaking beloved classics. It’s certainly welcome news that Disney are putting their faith in new material, in a genre that is in great health right now, epitomised by the likes of La La Land and The Greatest Showman.

Oyelowo is up next in Chaos Walking directed by Doug Liman.
