Casino movies to rewatch in 2022
It’s been quite a few years since the last decent casino movie was released, so it’s the perfect time to go back and watch the classics of the genre. Some great casino films have been released over the years, here are our top three casino films to rewatch in 2022.
Casino
Released in 1995, this crime epic directed by Martin Scorsese contains an all-star cast, including Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci, Sharon Stone, Kevin Pollack, James Woods, and Don Rickles. The story follows De Niro as “Ace” Rothstein and Joe Pesci as Nicky Santoro, two Chicago-based members of the Italian mafia who are placed in charge of the Tangiers casino in Vegas. Ace makes a success of the casino, but the success is threatened by his loose cannon partner and the presence of the fun but dangerous socialite Ginger McKenna, played by Sharon Stone.
Rounders
Released three years later in 1998, Rounders is arguably the best poker movie of all time and it can be found on Netflix. The film’s main characters Mike McDermott and “Worm” played by Matt Damon and Ed Norton, are two hot shot poker players in New York. After Worm is released from prison, Mike quickly learns about the debt that was running during his time inside. The two must play in every game they can find around the city to try and collect money to pay off their debt, eventually facing off against Russian mafioso Teddy KGB, played by John Malkovich.
21
Our last film looks at the world of blackjack syndicates. 21 follows the true story of a group of Harvard students led by their maths professor Micky Rosa, played by Kevin Spacey, who work together to beat the Las Vegas casinos for hundreds of thousands of dollars. The film follows the group from the point of view of Ben Campbell, played by Jim Sturgess, who uses the group as a way to pay for his tuition.
Conclusion
These movies have passed the test of time and are just as relevant now as they were when released. No matter what type of gambling you enjoy, there will be a classic casino movie that you can enjoy.
If this article hasn’t gotten you in the mood to rewatch these films, maybe one casino themed film that also links to magic is Now You See Me. Although if what you’re interested in is magic, we would rather suggest the the sweet alchemy slot, with exciting themes of the ancient art and secrets of alchemy.
