Branagh To Handle Disney Rework Of Cinderella?

Hollywood just can’t seem to resist tinkering with timeless tales involving iconic female characters. In recent years, we’ve had the likes of Kristen Stewart’s Snow White rock the sword and sorcery look and Mia Wasikowska’s Alice stuck in Tim Burton’s unique version of ‘Wonderland’. Sticking with Disney, they’ve been eager to provide modern audiences a live action re-telling of Cinderella since the year 2011.

With a script recently redrafted by The Twilight Saga: New Moon director Chris Weitz, the project was originally set to be handled by Never Let Me Go’s Mark Romanek. Put down to the classic ‘creative differences’ excuse, Disney have been on the hunt to find someone who can sprinkle a substantial helping of ‘stardust’ to revive the film.

That man it seems.. is Mr Kenneth Branagh. According to Vulture, the director of Thor and the forthcoming ‘Jack Ryan’ film starring Chris Pine is ‘locked in talks’ to take over the reins. ‘Cinderella’ already has the luxury of boasting Cate Blanchett as the infamous Wicked Stepmother.

With Branagh’s proven ability to stay true to such classic material (Hamlet), this could certainly prove a wise move on the part of Disney. Expect ‘Cinderella’ to land in cinemas sometime next year.
