“Although it’s been born out of crisis, this year’s edition of the LFF will be our most accessible yet.”-Ben Roberts (BFI Chief Executive)

The 64th BFI London Film Festival has announced it’s programme today. 50+ films will be available digitally with a few being screened in cinemas across the UK. Directors from 40 countries including Francis Lee, Tsai Ming-Liang, Chloé Zhao, Spike Lee and Miranda July. In August the BFI announced that Mangrove from Steve McQueen would be opening the festival. Closing the festival will be Francis Lee’s Ammonite on October 17th.

The Festival has adapted into hybrid operation that will include virtual premieres. Only audiences in the UK can book tickets and watch the digital selection. There will be a mixed approach to the screenings with some streaming live, and others will be available for 72 hours. As mentioned a few films will be playing in select cinemas they include Pixar’s Soul, Francis Lee’s Ammonite, Chloé Zhao’s Nomadland and Steve McQueen’s Mangrove. Some of the cinemas showing these films will be BFI Southbank (London), Chapter (Cardiff), Home (Manchester) and Queen’s Film Theatre (Belfast).
