Best NFL Movies of All Time
If you like watching football, chances are you’ll definitely love watching football movies. The sports genre in movies dates back to the beginning of movies and since then many directors and production companies decided to make a sports movie that is filled with passion, strong will, and shows the true emotion of this universal language.
With that said, there are many feel-good movie experiences, especially with football, that can inspire you to become a better self. From true story dramas to fiction and comedy films, here are some of the best NFL movies that are definitely worth the watch.
Remember the Titans
This is a truly emotional movie that showcases the journey of an African-American football coach and his struggle to build a stronger community using football to unite people.
This is a true story movie with Denzel Washington as the main actor that is located in a small town in Virginia back in 1970 where football is stronger than religion.
It is a great movie that you should watch it if you have the chance. Unfortunately though, Herman Boone who is portrayed by Denzel in that movie passed away last year.
The Longest Yard
The Longest Yard is a movie about football in prison and their goal to compete on a professional level. With Adam Sandler as the main actor, most people would consider this movie to be just like most of his ridiculous roles in other comedy movies, but that’s not the case.
This is a brilliant movie where a young professional NFL quarterback (Adam Sandler) ends up in prison. After a while, he is offered a get-out-of-jail free-card for playing football against the corrupt prison guards in a regulated match outside of prison.
It is definitely an interesting movie that involves a lot of passion, hard work, and love for the sport. Plus, Adam Sandler’s performance was impressively good, were just like Uncut Gems, he proved that he can also do a serious movie.
Silver Linings Playbook
This is a rather different type of movie where it is more about the fans than the game. This movie is about a man that is just released from a mental hospital (played by Bradley Cooper) and his goal to show his family that he can move on with his life.
His goal is to rebuild the relationship with his difficult family and possibly make new friends with an equally unstable friend played by Jennifer Lawrence that had been dealing with compulsive behavior from her husband which is a fanatic fan of the Philadelphia Eagles.
Silver Linings Playbook is not the traditional NFL movie that you would expect, but it definitely shows everything that is happening behind the curtains of the sport and shows how sport can have a big impact on our lives.
Leatherheads
Now we move on to a much more calm and relaxed movie where George Clooney plays the main actor. This is a romantic comedy feel-good movie that follows the 20’s football captain (Clooney) and his quest for making the sport exciting for everybody.
It is great to see how football started, where a bunch of “athletes” compete with strange rules in muddy fields and almost no gear whatsoever apart from the leather helmets. It makes you think about the progress of football and how it became the most-watched sport in the United States.
Concussion
This is a rather new movie that involves football, which is aimed towards the health and safety of the sport. The movie is about the health situation of NFL players and all the changes that must be made just so athletes can have an injury-free life and retire without any consequences from all the hard tackles in the sport.
Will Smith is the main actor in the movie where he performs an autopsy of a deceased NFL player to find that all the impacts of the game contribute to excelled brain damage in the players. He is trying to change that but he is stopped by the organizations of the sport who only want the game to be interesting.
It is a deep movie that shows the negative side of the sport and the corrupt organizations that only care about money.
Final Words
These are some of the best movies that have a strong connection to the NFL and American Football in general.
So, if you haven’t watched some of them make sure you tune in for great football entertainment just to fuel your passion before the new NFL season starts.
