Interviews
Behind Closed Doors with Zofia Helena
Actress Zofia Helena, who is currently based in Los Angeles studying under the guidance of Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute, has landed a table read for the upcoming romantic comedy feature film “Love Interrupted”.
We chatted with the rising star about romantic comedies in Hollywood and what’s coming up next.
For our readers that may not know you, tell us about some of your early acting experiences.
I remember as a little kid we often did performances in our school. When I was in 6th grade, I got a main role as Świtezianka in performance based on Adam Mickiewicz’s ballad. And as a junior in high school, I was cast as one of the merry men in the school Fall play Robin Hood and his Merry Men, which was an amazing experience throughout.
Can you tell us about the project “Love interrupted”
The film Love Interrupted is a romantic comedy about a man that struggles with his emotions, desires and life choices. He often feels disconnected from others. The whole script is awkward and funny at the same time highlighting the main character’s ongoing struggle to balance his wants and need, while sabotaging his own chances.
What character did you read for, and what is she like?
I read for Carly, she is a close friend of Ani, one of the main characters in the script. As well as some smaller roles such as the receptionist Laura.
How was the recent table read?
We did the table read at Dream Magic Studios in Los Angeles, where Snoop Dog and Kevin Hart recorded their Olympic performances, which was super cool to be there and experience a tour of the facility. For the reading itself, we didn’t really have assigned characters and often read for different characters.
We recently noticed you attended the Hollywood Music in Media Awards as a guest. How was that experience?
I loved it. I thought the performances were great, I especially loved the song “The Journey”, sung by Reyna Roberts. It was written by Diane Warren for the Netflix movie The Six Triple Eight and originally sang by H.E.R. The film, produced by Tyler Perry, is about the only all-Black, all-female battalion in World War II. I also really loved Bernie Taupin’s speech for Best Career Achievement Award. He has written world class songs with Elton John for decades.
What’s coming up next for you?
I am continuing my studies at the Lee Strasberg Acting Institute. We have a lot of monologues and scenes to work on. For each class we work on different character, different emotions and different sensory to connect with our characters.
My scene partner and I are working on a scene from Thoroughbred written by Cory Finley. The scene we are doing is super funny to the audience, there is a lot of unexpected turns and beats throughout the entire scene. Without spoiling too much, because I think everyone should see it at least once, my character Lily is being persuaded by her childhood friend Amanda to kill her stepdad that makes her life super miserable.
