Behind Closed Doors with Isabelle Urganci
Movie Marker Magazine went behind closed doors with actress Isabelle Urganci to chat about her latest project, ‘Devil’s Knight’ with Kevin Sorbo and Eric Roberts.
Thank you for chatting with us today. Congratulations on all your spectacular achievements. We are excited to learn more about the film, but first, from The Netherlands to Hollywood can you tell us about yourself?
Hi, I amIsabelle Emely Urganci, a Dutch actress with Italian and Turkish roots. I was born in Gelderland, in The Netherlands. I moved to Los Angeles at age 18 in order to attend Edgemar Center of the Arts acting school. I later moved to London and have since returned to live and study acting at UCLA in Los Angeles. I always wanted to be in entertainment so when I was 20, I produced my short film “Sell Out”. Since then I have been in a few feature films including the upcoming film “Bermuda Island”, “Devil’s Knight”, “Macabre Mountain” and I am starring in the film, “X: The End Time”.
Can you tell us about the movie Devils Knight?
Yes so, “Devil’s Knight” was filmed in a castle in Houston, Texas. The movie also stars Kevin Sorbo and Eric Roberts. I play Ruth. She is an elegant maiden in a fantasy world. She has to use her enchanting beauty to extract money from men to help her ailing mother.
What was it like to film a period piece?
Filming a period piece was one of my goals. I love to watch period pieces and I have always seen myself playing in them. Someone who I look up to is Keira Knightly. I absolutely love her style and work.
When can we see the movie?
The movie is still in post-production. I think it will be done in 2023.
What is your creative process when preparing for a movie?
The first thing I do to prepare for a movie is to just read the script 10 times until I really have the story in my head. Then I create a backstory for my character. What are my character’s needs? Why is she behaving the way she does? What do I want? this is what they teach you in film school but it really works for me. I am very good at visualizing things, so this is what I usually apply as well. Whenever something happens to my character, I just use someone who is really close to me in real life.
what makes a good filming environment for you?
A good filming environment for me is just being around amazing people. It is insane how much you learn from being on a movie set. When everybody gives their all and you are just creating a whole story together. I think that is pretty cool.
How important is training for you?
Super important! I always try to learn. I studied at the Michelle Danner acting studio in Santa Monica for a year and after finishing that I went to study the acting program at UCLA. But the best training for me also is being on a movie-set and just doing it.
Has there been one particular moment in your career that you are most proud of?
Yes. And that moment is now. It is almost the end of the year, and I am realizing now how far I have come in only 1 year. I met so many great people in the industry. I shot multiple feature films and I have so many projects coming up already for next year. I can’t wait for 2023!
If you had one message to give to your fans, what would it be?
Be yourself because there is no one like you. And literally everything Is possible, don’t think about why it wouldn’t work out instead think why it would work out.
How can people find you?
I put a lot of what I am up to on my Instagram and of course my IMDb is usually up to date!
