Behind Closed Doors with Claudio Musso
Movie Marker Magazine went behind closed doors with Canadian actor Claudio Musso to talk acting, and his role in Modern Whore.
Welcome to Movie Marker! I understand you were born in Toronto. What was it like growing up there?
Growing up in Toronto was a mix of vibrant city life and cozy neighborhood charm. One minute you’re surrounded by towering skyscrapers, the next you’re grabbing a bite at a local spot that feels like home. With its diverse culture, four distinct seasons, and die-hard love for hockey. Life in the 6ix was all about hustle, community, and discovering the world right in your own backyard. With the city doubling as Hollywood North, opportunities were everywhere, but so was the competition—pushing me to hone my craft in a place where talent and hustle go hand in hand.
What got you into acting and made you realize that it was your chosen path?
Believe it or not, it was a mix of fear and coolness that led me to acting. Horror movies used to terrify me so much that I started reenacting scenes to take the fear out of them, and watching the Fonz own every room he walked into made me want to do the same. That’s when I realized—performance wasn’t just fun, it was my path.
What sets you apart from other actors?
What sets me apart from other actors is my ability to fully immerse myself in a character, bringing a unique blend of emotional depth and authenticity to every role. I’m deeply committed to continuous growth and exploration, always striving to evolve both in my craft and in the way I connect with an audience.
Tell us about the project “Modern Whore” and your character.
I play an egocentric “Businessman” that has no regards to any human emotions towards women, only importance is to himself and his needs. We filmed at a strip club in downtown Toronto.
How did you prepare for the role?
It was challenging because I am nothing like character. I relied on my Method acting that was taught at Lee Strasberg to truly open my sensory memory.
How can we see the film?
I am very excited about this project, working with the talented Director, Nicole Bazuin was a great experience. It will be released soon not sure exactly but looking forward to the film festival run
As a Canadian-born actor navigating Hollywood, how do your roots and heritage influence your work and the roles you choose?
As a Canadian-born actor with Italian Sicilian parents, my heritage deeply influences the way I approach my craft. I draw on the strong sense of family, passion, and resilience ingrained in my roots, which allows me to bring authenticity and depth to the roles I choose. My diverse background offers a unique perspective that resonates with both my performances and the stories I want to tell in Hollywood.
