Behind Closed Doors with Actor Jason Maldonado
Jason Maldonado is a Latino actor and model hailing from a small town of Honduras. Raised by his mother and grandmother, Jason has received extensive training through the Acting Out Studio, NYC Latin Media, The New York Conservatory in New York and NYLA Talent, working with elite coaches to hone his craft.
Jason just returned from Los Angeles and a successful time at iPOP! – an industry leader in presenting talent to agents, casting directors, and managers, where he received fifteen callbacks from agents, managers and producers, and won several 1st and 2nd place medals, along with a $40,000 scholarship from the New York Conservatory of Dramatic Arts.
Fluent in English and Spanish, when Jason is not acting or modelling, he enjoys classes in tool handling, gun handling, improv., samba and salsa dancing. We caught up with Jason to find out some of his favorite things in the entertainment industry.
Welcome Jason, if you could book any TV show what would it be and why?
Thank you! It would be a Disney show, at some point in our lives we all have watched a Disney show.
Who are your favorite actors?
Wilmer Valderrama and Sofía Vergara. These actors are opening paths for other Latinos in the industry by breaking the stereotypes of Latinos been the “bad guys” or gangsters. Finally, we can see Latinos in leading roles for the big screen.
Do you have a “go to” monologue?
Yes, I do! My favorite monologue to do is actually a commercial for Nike, I added a phrase in Spanish to add a little bit of my origin.
“If you exercise or are active like me, then you need good dependable sportswear. I rely on Nike to get me through my workouts. Nike is all about strength, distance and power. It’s designed for any sport, any shape and any temperature. Nike doesn’t just design its sportswear for anyone, it designs it for everyone. Si eres un campeón, tienes que vestir con Nike. Just do it!”
Tell us three things people would be surprised to know about you?
I was employed by the Embassy of Honduras in the USA. My biggest dream is to be a father, and I was awarded $40,000 in scholarship by the New York Conservatory of Dramatic Arts.
