Already making a solid impression Stateside with Disney adaptation of Madeleine L’Engle’s fantastical tale ‘A Wrinkle In Time’ (released on 23rd March in the UK), starring Oprah Winfrey, Chris Pine and Reese Witherspoon, despite the dominance of Marvel’s ‘Black Panther’.

Selma director Ava DuVernay has set her sights on another big-budget property, following in the footsteps of Wonder Woman’s Patty Jenkins, by bringing to life DC Comics’ ‘The New Gods’ for Warner Bros.

Originally created and designed in the 1970’s by Jack Kirby. These characters are split between the planets New Genesis and Apokolips, with the latter ruled by Darkseid, inevitably setting up a new cinematic universe for DuVernay to lay the foundations for.

This is the latest step taken by Warner Bros to reinvigorate their DC extended universe in the wake of ‘Justice League’, which under-performed at the worldwide box office last year, with James Wan’s Aquaman up next (December 2018).

The New Gods will be scripted by Chasing Mavericks’ Kario Salem.
