Most Anticipated Movies! June 2014
Here we take a look at our top 5 most anticipated movies for the month of June (please note the release dates are based on UK release schedules) A quiet month in terms of ‘blockbusters’ but June looks set to have some great films, especially comedies.
Let us know what you think below, do you agree? What is your most anticipated movie for June?
5. Third Person
Released: 27th June
Director: Paul Haggis
Stars: Mila Kunis, James Franco, Liam Neeson, Olivia Wilde, Adrien Brody, Kim Basinger
With a similar feel to that of Love Actually and a cast to match (matching exactly in Liam Neeson’s case) Third Person might actually prove to be a decent love story. Set over three cities we watch as an intertwining tale unravels across Paris, London and New York. While it may not be a blockbuster and probably wouldn’t find it’s way into most people’s lists of most anticipated movies for June, there is a strong cast and Director/Writer Paul Haggis has been responsible for some fantastic scripts such as his dual-Oscar winning script for ‘Crash’ as well as ‘Million Dollar Baby’. I’m willing to take a gamble on this one and say it will pleasantly surpise us all.
4. Chef
Released: 25th June
Director: Jon Favreau
Stars: Jon Favreau, John Leguizamo Robert Downey Jr, Scarlett Johansson, Dustin Hoffman
Another odd-choice for some, but again an equally strong cast and a genuinely funny trailer have certainly sparked my interest in Chef. Jon Favreau has used his Marvel connections and managed to get Downy Jr and Johansson on board as well as a certain Mr Hoffman who has steered clear of film for the last 3 years in preference to TV series ‘Luck’. Jon Favreau directs himself as a chef who loses his restaurant job starts up a food truck in an effort to reclaim his creative romise, while piecing back together his estranged famil. This is definitely looking to be a decent family trip to the cinema for June.
3. Jersey Boys
Released: 20th June
Director: Clint Eastwood
Stars: Christopher Walken, Vincent Piazzo, john Lloyd Young
Jersey Boys seemed to gain a lot of momentum in a very short space of time as the trailer only arrived a short while ago. Whenever Eastwood directs a film, there is a certain buzz around his projects and with a youthful cast lined up to retell the story of The Four Seasons, a story made famous by the West-End musical, Jersey Boys is a must-see this June. Walken is the biggest name to grace the bill as Angelo ‘Gyp’ DeCarlo as we look at the darker side of the story of the iconic 60’s group, involving almost everything from gambling, debt and the mafia. Jersey Boys is set to be a big-hit and we can’t wait!
2. How To Train Your Dragon 2
Released: 27th June 2014
Director: Dean DeBlois
Stars: (Voices of) Jay Baruchel, Kristen Wiig, Gerard Butler, Jonah Hill, Cate Blanchett
Hiccup and Toothless return for what will surely be one of the biggest family films of 2014. After the much-praised original, parents, children and even critics(at least this one!) have been looking forward to the sequel. With an impressive number of high-profile stars lending their voices to the sequel, it’s sure to be bigger, better and toothless-ier than it’s predecessor and assuming they can carry on the style that made the first so popular then How To Train Your Dragon 2 is going to be great!
1. 22 Jump Street
Released: 6th June
Directors: Phil Lord, Christoper Miller
Stars: Channing Tatum, Jonah Hill, Ice Cube, Dave Franco
It was a tough call to choose which of the sequels should occupy the top-spot and while How To Train Your Dragon 2 will be a great family affair, the sequel to 21 Jump Street, convienienly named 22 Jump Street, is our most anticipated movie for June 2014. The trailer has shown that the sequel looks more than ready to go toe-to-toe with the original and it’s unlikely lead pair return. 21 Jump Street marked an upturn in Tatum’s career for me, proving he had more in his locker than previously thought, whilst Hill has only gone from strength to strength, with Moneyball and more recently the fantastic Wolf of Wall Street only bolstering his already impressive CV. After returning to High School before, now they head undercover, to college. Sure to bring numerous laugh-out-loud moments, 22 Jump Street will be the highlight of June for me.
