86th Oscars to Honor Wizard of Oz
Academy Awards producers Neil Meron and Craig Zadan have revealed the show will pay tribute to 1940 Best Picture nominee The Wizard of Oz to mark its 75th anniversary.
“We are delighted to celebrate the birthday of one of the most beloved movies of all time at this year’s Oscars,” said Zadan and Meron. The Wizard of Oz was nominated for six Oscars, winning two for Original Song and Original Score.
The recognition of a musical is of no surprise at all considering Meron and Zadan’s background is musical television and film. Last year they paid tribute to movie musicals. We should also expect some musical element to the telecast, as we have done to the trailer. If Ellen doesn’t do any song and dance routine it will be a let down.
The Oscars will be broadcast live on Sunday March 2nd, and Only Oscar will be covering all the action as it happens.
