On the big screen thus far, the character has been merely reduced to a cameo appearance in the underwhelming ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’ from 2009. First played by Taylor Kitsch who is set to play a prominent role in series 2 of ‘True Detective’ alongside Vince Vaughn and Colin Farrell, X-Men character Gambit has been long mooted for a solo adventure.

With Channing Tatum (his latest Magic Mike XXL hitting the UK on July 3rd) already set to play the card-throwing mutant, we can now confirm that 20th Century Fox has found its director.

It will be Rupert Wyatt, who to much surprise revitalised another current ‘Fox franchise in the form of ‘Apes, with 2011’s ‘Rise’ instalment receiving much critical acclaim. Simon Kinberg (X-Men: Days Of Future Past) is producing once again and the film has been penned by ‘Robocop’s (2014) Josh Zetumer.

‘Gambit’ is set to be released on 7th October 2016.
