Following in the footsteps of Jonah Hill and to some extent Seth Rogan, Steve Carell is making the successful transition from comedy to drama. His latest project, which has just been announced by The Hollwood Reporter, could just be his vehicle to the Oscars, finally cementing himself as a serious dramatic actor.
Right to the book The Priority List: A Teacher’s Final Quest to Discover Life’s Greatest Lessons have just been acquired by Warner Bros. with Carell attached to both star and produce the project. The Project List is a memoir by David Menasche, a high school teacher who was diagnosed with terminal cancer in 2006. Despite only being given a few months to live he is still alive today and trying to live life to the full.
The book was only published in January 2014 but Warner Bros. snapped up the rights pretty quick, with the film being produced through Carousel Productions.
As this has only just been announced, no more info is available. however we are tipping this for an October/November release, but we may have to wait a few years. This is just the sort of thing that can pull a few sentimental voters in, but there are several directions the movie can take. It can either be a straight up cancer drama, or it can be a road movie, which seems the most plausible. We imagine About Schmidt with cancer.
What do you think? Are you excited about the project or perhaps you couldn’t Carell less?
