Star Wars Spin-Offs Reportedly ‘On Hold’ At Lucasfilm

Published

on

Lucasfilm has reportedly put all future standalone anthology Star Wars films on hold.

According to Collider, Lucasfilm will now be focusing solely on Star Wars: Episode IX and figuring out what the new trilogy of Star Wars movies will be after Episode IX for now.

The decision is being reported on after Solo: A Star Wars Story had a lower than anticipated box office draw, particularly overseas. The movie has only made an estimated $340 million worldwide. Disney could reportedly lose over $50 million on the film after factoring in a budget of over $250 million and a similarly expensive marketing push.

Though never confirmed or acknowledged by Disney or Lucasfilm, recent reports suggested an Obi-Wan Kenboi spinoff was in development, and was set to be a prequel to A New Hope. A Boba Fett standalone film was also reportedly in the works from Logan director James Mangold, though never confirmed to be an official project.

This news seems as though Lucasfilm is doubling down on its ventures into new galaxies far away instead of focusing on the past. Disney has officially confirmed that The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson is working on a new Star Wars trilogy, while Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss will write and produce a new series of Star Wars films.

Dave Bautista Still Not Letting It Go, Sarcastically Thanks Disney For Firing James Gunn

Published

Blade Runner 2049‘s Dave Bautista has been easily the most vocal critic of Disney Studios following their decision to terminate director James Gunn’s contract for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, and the actor – who portrays Drax the Destroyer in the Marvel Cinematic Universe – is refusing to let it go.

Gunn lost his job when alt-right keyboard warriors dug up decade-old tweets of his that made darkly-humorous jokes about taboo subjects such as child molestation and rape in what Gunn has since called a “juvenile” attempt “to shock”. It’s believed that the alt-right ‘cybernazis’ who targeted Gunn did so in ‘retaliation’ for his staunch opposition to the United States’ controversial President, Donald Trump.

As such, Batista made a distinctly unsubtle dig at his employers, whilst quoting the Commander in Chief:

Bautista was last seen in Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Infinity War and is still contractually obliged to appear in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which is currently seeking a new director.

Rosamund Pike Says She Was Asked To Strip For Her Die Another Day Audition

Published

on

In the wake of the #MeToo movement, many in Hollywood have felt galvanised by the support and culture of understanding that seems to have now replaced the Boys’ Club attitudes of old, and have revealed glimpses into the seedy world of casting. Now, Gone Girl actress Rosamund Pike has revealed that she was asked to strip for her audition for Pierce Brosnan’s much-maligned final flick as the legendary super-spy James Bond, Die Another Day – and that refusing actually won her a part.

“My first audition was for a Bond film, and I remember them saying I was to drop my dress and appear in my underwear,” Pike said in an interview with Audible, “On the day, I don’t know how I got the resolve and strength of mind, but I just thought, ‘Actually, sod that, if they’re gonna see me in my underwear, they better give me the job.’ So, I thought, ‘There’s no way I’m going to take off a dress in the audition for this tape to be sent around Los Angeles and to be judged on that.’”

Reportedly Pike had showed up to the audition, which required formal wear, in a silk gown that had previously belonged to her grandmother.

The costume designer told her, “‘That’s a very beautiful dress, but, in Bond films, we wear things a little more like this,’ and she held up three pieces of string. I realised I was in a completely different world and way out of my depth. So, I put on this shimmering sheath, or whatever the order of the day was, but I didn’t drop it.”

The Hostiles actress then explained that her refusal earned her the respect of the producers, and she was cast as femme fatale Miranda Frost.

Rosamund Pike can next be seen as legendary war correspondent Marie Colvin, in Matthew Heineman’s forthcoming A Private War.
