The Merlin group are teaming up with Universal Studios to introduce a brand new interactive attraction based on the Oscar winning Shrek.
The movie, which has made billions of dollars at the box office, has been one of the most popular non-Disney animated franchises, with rides, TV movies, merchandise and a Broadway turned West End musical.
Based near the London Eye, the new attraction will be called Shrek’s Far Far Away Adventure and will feature a brand new story played out as an interactive walk through attraction. Visitors can also explore the courtyard and meet some of their favourite characters from Shrek and other animated films.
According to Variety, the plan is to open nine similar attractions in several years, which will coincide nicely with the film’s 15th anniversary.
Another big film franchise to expand into leisure and tourism is Avatar, who are due to open a themed land within Disney’s Animal Kingdom, with the intention of launching several theme parks around the world.
