Peter Jackson’s ‘Mortal Engines’ Set For December 2018 Release

Published

Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh — the filmmaking pair behind the “Lord of the Rings” and “Hobbit” trilogies — return to the big screen with Universal and MRC’s “Mortal Engines,” based on the award-winning sci-fi book series by Philip Reeve.

The film will open on December 14, 2018, according to Universal. December 2018 is shaping up to be a competitive month, with what is suspected to be James Cameron’s “Avatar” sequel slated for release on December 21 by Fox. The first “Avatar” opened on the same week in December 2009.

Set in a dystopian future where Earth’s cities roam the globe on huge wheels, battling each other in a struggle for ever diminishing resources, “Mortal Engines” is the story of how two unlikely heroes come together and change the course of the future.

Jackson and Walsh co-wrote the screenplay with their “LOTR” and “Hobbit” collaborator, Philippa Boyens, who serves as co-producer. Zane Weiner, Amanda Walker and Deborah Forte also produce, while Ken Kamins executive produces. Universal will distribute the film worldwide.

That week of December has brought good fortune to Jackson: All six “Hobbit” and “Lord of the Rings” movies staked out the same pre-Christmas week date.

Duncan Jones To Bring 2000AD’s ‘Rogue Trooper’ To The Big Screen

Published

Earlier this year. He finally completed a passion project in the form of Berlin-set sci-fi ‘Mute’ starring Justin Theroux, Alexander Skarsgard and Paul Rudd for Netflix, that whilst it received a mixed reception, we certainly found it to be a thought-provoking work.

Now Duncan Jones is dipping his toes into comicbook territory yet sidestepping the works of Marvel and DC, excitedly announcing via his Twitter account that he will be directing a film version of the comic ‘Rogue Trooper’, made by Gerry Finley-Day and Dave Gibbons.

After his troubles on the admirable big-budget videogame adaptation of sprawling RPG ‘Warcraft’, it’s perhaps no surprise that he’s opted for a lesser-known and British anthology rooted in a genre he’s well versed in, to pour his heart into.

A key part of 2000AD’s Megaverse and set on a planet called Nu-Earth. ‘Rogue Trooper’ revolves around a single genetic infantryman called Rogue, a blue-skinned super soldier to rival Captain America who is caught up in a war of attrition, between two factions called the Norts and Southers as he looks to hunt down the Traitor General.

Previously, the character has had various videogame outings, beginning as an 8-bit game in 1986, all the way to a remastered version of third-person shoot-em-up ‘Rogue Trooper Redux’ in 2017.

Giuseppe is the 13-year-old son of a Mafia hitman, turned informant. When he disappears, it is assumed he has been kidnapped by his father’s former bosses. Giuseppe’s girlfriend, the determined Luna, battles her mother (some kind of wicked witch) and the police authority’s sloth and corruption in her search for him. Cleverly plotting her relentless quest, while her imagination conjures up mysterious and magical visions of where Giuseppe might be, Sicilian Ghost Story contrasts these fantastical worlds with the grim reality of the boy’s cruel captivity.’
