Paramount Pictures and Bad Robot announced today they have won the rights to adapt the hit Japanese film YOUR NAME for the big screen. The two companies will work with Japan-based Toho Co., Ltd., the producers of the acclaimed original animated film, to develop a live-action take on the story that has captivated audiences around the world over since its release in 2016. Toho will handle distribution of the film in Japan.

J.J. Abrams and Lindsey Weber will produce for Bad Robot, along with Genki Kawamura, producer of the original film. Academy Award®-nominated screenwriter Eric Heisserer (ARRIVAL) will write the screenplay.

“We are excited to collaborate with an extremely talented team in Hollywood,” said Yoshishige Shimatani, CEO of Toho Co., Ltd. “And to create with them a live action version of the iconic Japanese film YOUR NAME.”

“Just like in the film it feels like a dream” says Genki Kawamura. “Mr. Abrams and his team have captivated audiences in their masterful reinvention of known properties. And Mitsuha and Taki have found a perfect narrator, Mr. Heisserer, to tell their sci-fi infused love story which gave the film such drive. The meetings so far have been creatively stimulating with fantastic ideas that no doubt will make for a great movie. I am greatly honored to work with these incredible creators in bringing to audiences the Hollywood live action version of YOUR NAME.”

YOUR NAME, an original story created, written, and directed by Makoto Shinkai, tells the story of a teenage boy and girl from different backgrounds who discover they can swap bodies. They become desperate to cross space and time to find a way to meet and stop an impending disaster.

The original film was produced by Genki Kawamura with Minami Ichikawa, Keiji Ota, and Yoshihiro Furusawa for Toho Co., Ltd. and Noritaka Kawaguchi for CoMix Wave Films serving as executive producers.

YOUR NAME has become the highest grossing anime film at the worldwide box office, earning US$355M. In Japan, it earned ¥25.0 billion (US$303M) and held the top spot at the box office for a record-breaking 12 weeks (non-consecutive). The movie is also the highest grossing Japanese film to release in China to date, earning US$85.6M.

Zachary Levi Is ‘Shazam!’ In Official Teaser Trailer

Not content with seeing Jason Momoa’s ‘Aquaman’ steal all of the DC glory at Comic-Con this weekend. Zachary Levi is taking a much lighter approach to this often brooding universe with ‘Shazam!’, working like a charm in the fun-filled teaser trailer released by Warner Bros.

Directed by David F. Sandberg, the initial footage focuses on foster kid Billy Batson (Asher Angel), who is chosen to channel superpowers through an ancient wizard, ultimately turning into the titular character with the childish sensibilities intact. Super strength? Flying? He seems more concerned on how he’s meant to pee in his red suit. Yet he’s soon having to use his abilities for good, when faced with Mark Strong’s big bad Dr. Thaddeus Sivana.

‘Shazam!’ swoops into UK cinemas in April 2019.

Fantastical Debut Trailer For ‘Aquaman’ Welcomes You To Atlantis

Still reeling from the critical reception which greeted ‘Justice League’ last year. Director James Wan and leading man Jason Momoa are tasked with keeping Warner Bros’ DCEU above water this December with ‘Aquaman’ and after seeing the action-packed first footage straight from Comic-Con, they seem up for the challenge.

Billed as the origin story of the half-human half -Atlantean. We catch glimpses of Arthur Curry’s (Momoa) family unit, most notably Nicole Kidman’s Queen Atlanna and his feisty red-haired ally Mera (Amber Heard), merely teasing his potential king status as he clashes with half-brother Orm (Patrick Wilson), allowing Wan to dial up the underwater spectacle and throw in a goat for good measure.

We’re positively drowning in excitement already. Here’s the trailer…

Well. If you thought there wasn’t enough monster mayhem in Gareth Edwards’ 2014 effort.

Michael Dougherty’s (Krampus) 2018 film seems awfully keen to amend this with the epic debut trailer for ‘Godzilla: King Of The Monsters’, pitting the iconic creature against some of his greatest adversaries. Expect stunning money shots of Mothra, Rodan and a certain three-headed titan by the name King Ghidorah, whilst the human heroics are left to the Russell family consisting of Millie Bobby Brown, Vera Farmiga and Kyle Chandler.
