Oscars to Hand Out Awards During Commercial Breaks

Published

Following the news that this years Oscars ceremony will be going ahead without a host it’s also been revealed that some of the ‘less popular’ awards will be given out during the shows commercial breaks in an attempt to keep the run-time below three hours.

ABC, the network who own the rights to the broadcasting of the ceremony are facing more criticism as they look to increase the popularity of an awards ceremony that has seen viewing figures dwindle in recent years – culminating in an all-time-low of 26 million viewers for last years ceremony.

The organisers have also been forced to backtrack on plans to drop three of the five Oscar-nominated songs from the broadcast, reportedly at the insistence of Lady Gaga, whose duet with Bradley Cooper, Shallow, was one of the two planned to be retained.

It’s not yet been revealed which awards will be given out during the breaks.
