Oscar-winner Pfister to make Directorial Debut!

Critically-acclaimed and long-time Christopher Nolan sidekick, Wally Pfister is to embark upon his directorial debut. The Oscar-winning cinematographer will direct an as-yet untitled screenplay from newcomer Jack Paglen. The film is set to be financed by Alcon Entertainment (PS. I Love You, The Blind Side, The Book of Eli) with pre-production to begin immediately and principal photography to follow towards the end of Summer.

Co-founders of Alcon Entertainment, Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove released the following statement.
“We have been talking to Wally about making his directorial debut with Alcon for over a decade since we all worked together on INSOMNIA. Wally is truly one of the most talented artists with whom we have ever collaborated. To now have the opportunity to work with Wally as a director on this truly remarkable project, is a company highlight for Alcon Entertainment.”

Previous works includes Nolan collaborations Memento, The Prestige, Inception and the Dark Knight series as well as The Italian Job (2003) and 2011’s Moneyball. Four Academy Award nominations and one win (Inception, 2010) have obviously paved the way for Pfister’s ascendance into the directorial hot seat with the film tentatively estimated for a late-2013 release.

If Pfister’s previous efforts are anything to go by, we should be in for a treat. His exquisite touch in creating such stark, vibrant visuals should only continue to be a focal point of his work and the greater control over an entire project may see the Nolan protégé forge a product that his frequent cohort would be proud of.
