In the process nabbing a certain word from a trilogy involving a Bat, the much beloved Hanna-Barbera creation Top Cat is back for a new feature-length adventure.

The first trailer for Top Cat Begins has debuted, with Rio 2’s Jason Harris voicing the famous feline.

Directed by Andres Couterier, the film debuts on 27th May 2016 (UK).

‘Tracing the roots of the famous animated series from cartoon legends Hanna-Barbera, get set for this ‘purrfect’ feature adventure that tells the ‘tail’ of how our hero, T.C. created his infamous, Manhattan alley cats gang. Poor, lonely and living on the streets, Top Cat is one sad cat, until a chance meeting with Benny, a naive and good-hearted cat looking for adventure. The pair quickly become best buddies – and partners in crime – pick pocketing their way out of poverty and quickly believing they are the real cats’ whiskers! Setting their sights higher, they decide to steal from Mr. Big, a mysterious diamond-stealing henchman who rules New York’s backstreets. As Top Cat and Benny hatch a plan to take the diamonds for themselves, little do they know, success is just the start of their problems. Along the way, our heroes meet fellow alley cats Choo Choo, Fancy-Fancy and Brain, and together they’re a formidable bunch. However, when Mr. Big catches up with them and captures Top Cat, can his new friends save the day?’

Meg Ryan to be Honoured With 2018 Leopard Club Award at #Locarno71

Published

The witty character with that unique ability to combine beauty with irony. For years she has been the undisputed queen of romantic comedy but has also been able, over time, to take on other genres such as dramas and thrillers.

The fact that Meg Ryan occupies a central position in the popular collective imagination is demonstrated by the gallery of characters who have enlivened films and have become – in their field – cult films. Just think of the triptych of films that were born from Meg Ryan’s meeting with Nora Ephron, the screenwriter and director who has built three film career-cornerstones on her: When Harry Met Sally (1989), Sleepless in Seattle (1993) and You’ve Got Mail (1998). These are films in which her talent was also enhanced by the ability to co-star in complete harmony with actors such as Billy Crystal or Tom Hanks.

All performances to which the Locarno Festival wishes to pay tribute through one of its most prestigious awards: The Leopard Club. So, following Faye Dunaway, Mia Farrow, Andy Garcia, Stefania Sandrelli and Adrien Brody, this year Piazza Grande will be completely hers, for the award ceremony on Friday, August 3.

Her presence will be accompanied by a double screening of films during the Festival. And if, with In the Cut, a side of Meg Ryan will be shown that, under the direction of Jane Campion, is capable of trying her hand at an erotic thriller, instead with the comedy Sleepless in Seattle (1993) there will be a completely natural connection with the Retrospettiva dedicated to Leo McCarey: Nora Ephron’s film, in fact, is a homage-re-reading of a masterpiece such as Love Affair (1994) by the great American filmmaker. A live dialogue between the present and the past for a much-loved female icon, one whose destiny seemed to have already been marked by her debut film: Rich and Famous (1981), the last film by a “ladies’ director” like George Cukor, coincidentally, another classic filmmaker to whom Locarno dedicated a retrospective in 2013.

It’s Paratroopers Versus Nazi Zombies in ‘Overlord’ Trailer

Published

We’re ensured this is not another elaborate scheme to expand the Cloverfield universe by producer J.J Abrams, after The Cloverfield Paradox was released on Netflix earlier this year without little warning.

But the frentic ‘Overlord’ trailer set to AC/DC’s ‘Hells Bells’ certainly has us intrigued, providing us with an undead take on the horrors of World War II as a team of paratroopers led by Wyatt Russell find themselves behind enemy lines, only to uncover that the Nazis are conducting scientific experiments to create zombie-like super soldiers.

Directed by Son Of A Gun’s Julius Avery. The film is released in the UK on 25th October.
