Paramount Pictures has snapped up the U.S. distribution rights to a new, untitled comedy that is being written for Leslie Mann by The Hangover writing team of Jon Lucas and Scott Moore. Lucas and Moore will also direct the film from their original screenplay, which Block Entertainment and Merced Media are producing alongside Judd Apatow.
Paramount is targeting an April 15, 2016 release for the film, with shooting scheduled to begin this summer in New York. Merced Media is fully financing the female-centric project with Block Entertainment’s Bill Block and Merced’s Raj Brinder Singh serving as producers. Block Entertainment partner, John Friedberg, will executive produce.
In October, Block partnered with Singh and PalmStar Media Capital’s Kevin Frakes to launch Merced Media, a $500-million development, production and financing company. Block and Friedberg, under the Block Entertainment banner, are currently in production on Dirty Grandpa, starring Robert De Niro and Zac Efron, which Lionsgate will release in the U.S.
“We are excited to be partnering with Judd, Bill and their teams for this great project. Leslie, Jon and Scott are among the best comedic talents working today and their combined forces will no doubt make for an incredibly funny movie that the whole team here is excited to be a part of,” Paramount Motion Picture Group president Marc Evans said.
