‘John Wick: Chapter Three’ Set For May 2019 Release

Published

on

John Wick: Chapter Three officially has a release date.

Lionsgate will release Summit’s third installment of the Keanu Reeves shooter franchise on May 17, 2019. It is the film series’ first summer release. No plot details have yet been unveiled for the upcoming threequel.

John Wick: Chapter Three is currently the only studio project with that release date. Earlier that month, Disney will unveil a new Avengers movie and Sony’s TriStar will release its adaptation of The Rosie Project, while Disney’s Aladdin reimagining and Warner Bros.’ Minecraft will be released afterward.

Following the eponymous Wick, the R-rated action series stars Reeves as a no-holds-barred ex-hitman who comes out of retirement to get retribution on gangsters who took away everything he loved. Chapter 2 found Wick fighting off bounty hunters seeking the large prize placed on his head.

Directed by David Leitch and Chad Stahelski, John Wick debuted in October 2014 and grossed $88 million worldwide. The sequel, helmed by Stahelski, grossed $171 million globally upon its release in February of this year.

Screenwriter Derek Kolstad, who wrote the first two films, will return to pen the third installment

Uncharted Movie Nearing Production, Has A Completed Screenplay

Published

In a recent interview with The Playlist, Uncharted director Shawn Levy gave an update on the flick – which has sat in development hell for the better part of a decade now – saying that the project is nearing production.

“As of right now, the closest to the starting line is Uncharted in that it’s a massive title,” Levy said, in reference to his two gestating features, Uncharted and Starman, “We now have a very good script and we have our star in Tom Holland. That is now subject to schedule and additional casting. But I would say, as of right now, that seems to be the most near the horizon. And it’s a movie I’m very excited about.”

The Uncharted movie, based on the mega-selling PlayStation video game franchise, has gone through a slew of directors, and at one point had Mark Wahlberg signed on to play the lead role of adventurer Nathan Drake. However, as of May this year, Spider-Man: Homecoming’s Tom Holland has been attached to play a younger version of the beloved gaming icon.

It’s currently unknown who has penned the script for this iteration of the film, after the screenplay by Joe Carnahan (The Grey) was dropped by Sony Pictures a few months before Holland’s casting.

No release date has been set for Uncharted. Fan-favourite pick for Nathan Drake, Firefly’s Nathan Fillion, recently starred in an unofficial short film based on the video games.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier‘s Anthony Mackie has joined the cast of 20th Century Fox’s adaptation of New York Times bestseller The Woman in the Window, Variety reports.

Originally written by author A.J. Finn, Joe Wright (The Darkest Hour) will direct Amy Adams, Julianne Moore, Gary Oldman, and Brian Tyree Henry in the feature. The Woman in the Window will follow an agoraphobe (Adams) who witnesses a horrifying crime through her solitary window to the outside world.

The film rights were scooped up in a frenzy earlier in the year, following the novel’s buzzy debut. It released at the top of the charts, and remains the best-selling adult fiction novel of 2018. The Woman in the Window has sold over a million copies in the United States alone.

Anthony Mackie can next be seen in Netflix’s remake of French thriller Point Blank, which is shooting now.

Lionsgate, via Twitter, have shown off a brand new still from John Wick 3: Parabellum.

The image, which features Laurence Fishburne’s Bowery King and Ian McShane’s Winston stood in the midst of a cityscape, was captioned “Old friends. New enemies. Chapter 3”.

Also set to return will be the titular retired assassin himself, Keanu Reeves as John Wick – on the run after the events of the John Wick: Chapter 2. Set to join the franchise, which is rumoured to be gearing up to spin-out into a shared universe, is Halle Berry’s Sofia – described as “a woman on a mission”. The title for the film refers to the famous Latin phrase “Si vis pacem, para bellum“, which roughly translates to “If you want peace, prepare for war”.

John Wick 3: Parabellum is due for release in May next year, and is rumoured to be the conclusion to its lead character’s story. It will be directed by Chad Stahelski (John Wick), and will also star Asia Kate Dillon (Orange is the New Black), Jason Mantzoukas (Brooklyn Nine-Nine), and Anjelica Huston (The Addams Family).
