Emma Stone and Joaquin Phoenix have been confirmed to star in Woody Allen’s next movie.
The writer/director, who was making headlines for all the wrong reasons last awards season, is looking ahead to his next project following the critically acclaimed Blue Jasmine for which Cate Blanchett won the Academy Award. The project is currently untitled but we can safely assume it will be in the running for a screenplay nomination, as most of his films are.
Emma Stone most recently appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, but has also starred in Oscar nominated films including The Help, while Phoenix gave a brilliant but overlooked performance in Spike Jonze’s Her. Woody Allen has the rare luxury of picking and choosing his casts, and though he has not previously worked with either of these in a starring role, it’s a promising pairing.
What do you think of the news? Who do you think Woody Allen should cast in his next movie, or do you think he should be shunned from Hollywood?
