BAFTA Award Nominations

Published

on

BAFTA StatueThe nominees have just been announced for this year’s EE British Academy Film Awards, to be hosted Sunday 16th February by Stephen Fry. Judi Dench became the most nominated actress in BAFTA history, with her leading role in Philomena the 15th of her career. Behind the Candelabra also features among the nominees, offering a rare awards platform for the hugely under-acknowledged Liberace biopic.

Surprise nominations include Amy Adams as leading actress for American Hustle and Leonardo DiCaprio for Leading Actor in The Wolf of Wall Street. The former picked up nods in every acting category, while the latter also earned Scorsese a directing nomination, though it failed to appear for Best Film. Meanwhile Philomena picked up nominations for Best Film and Outstanding British Film, but director Stephen Frears was snubbed.

BAFTA nominations tend to reflect Oscar winners fairly well, but there is a very deliberate skew towards British films, so any fans of Philomena and Saving Mr. Banks shouldn’t get their hopes up. This is the stage for them. The full nominees are below, and for any more info just visit the BAFTA site.

I SO hope Leonardo Dicaprio wins this year! One of my favourite actors and he so deserves it because I can’t think of a single film he’s been in that I’ve seen and disliked! x

Though he looks amazing in the trailer, I think it’s Chiwetel’s Ejiofor’s year. Sorry!
