Initiated by the award-winning filmmaker Jia Zhangke, with prestigious festival director Marco Müller as artistic director, PYIFF will be held in the ancient city of Pingyao from October 28 – November 4. PYIFF’s new Festival Complex, including a 1500-seat open-air arena, will also be inaugurated this year.
After receiving the invitation to become the festival’s ambassador, Fan expressed her delight:
“I am very honored to be the ambassador of this inaugural edition. PYIFF will be a festival for both filmmakers and audiences.” She also warmly invited fans to the festival, “This October, please join us watching films in Pingyao!”
PYIFF also unveiled today its official logo and the poster of the first PYIFF. The logo and poster both suggest a strong link between Pingyao and film, a blend of cinema and history.
The Pingyao International Film Festival aims at becoming a meeting place and launching platform for Chinese and international auteurs and films. Besides the curatorial team that includes celebrated programmers from around the world, the festival’s two advisory boards include ternationally acclaimed directors, experienced producers, film festival organisers and film investors. The ten members are now confirmed: Feng Xiaogang, Johnnie To, Walter Salles, Aleksandr Sokurov, Olivier Père, Anurag Kashyap, James Schamus, Roger Garcia, Alexander Rodnyansky and Tony Cao.
The festival will run from October 28th 2017 to November 4th 2017
